Comparative Study on the Translations of The River All Red Under the Theory of Reception Aesthetics

Liu Li

Abstract: As the reproduction and excellent carrier of Chinese traditional culture, Chinese classical poetry shows the unique charm of five thousand years of Chinese civilization. The poetry, every word, bears the literati's deep homesickness, a sigh of regret for "great aspirations difficult to fulfill", the yearning for landscape and pastoral as well as the clank steel frame. With the appearance of reception aesthetics, it has greatly promoted the translation of Chinese poetry so as to better convey its unique Chinese charm to some extent. From a reader's perspective, full consideration should be given to the relationship between translators and original texts to endow poetry translation new perspective on the basis of the relationship between readers and authors. Therefore, this paper attempts to analyze the differences between two English versions of The River All Red in terms of three dimensions such as rhythm, artistic conception as well as image under the theory of reception aesthetics, and explore the application of strategies and skills when translating poetry.

Key words: reception aesthetics; rhythm; artistic conception; image; poetry translation
