Its development still has considerable contemporary significance. Based on a brief introduction of the historical background of Marx's surplus value theory, this paper reviewed the basic concept of Marx's surplus value theory and the basic process of surplus value production and distribution, and finally explained the contemporary value of the surplus value theory in detail. In the academic world, there has been a phenomenon of vigorous debates and discussions regarding the theory of surplus value, but a consensus has yet to be reached.
