Book Description

In today's China, the vast geographical area, the complex socio-historical and cultural background and the accumulated multiple contradictions have created an imbalance in education in various aspects, and the debate between quality education and examination-based education is far from being settled. In our daily lives, we often come across diverse educational perceptions by chance, inevitably face the net of various educational policies and regulations, and often observe educational crises or educational inequities, and even clash with people around us over educational ideas or behaviours. On the one hand, it seems that the threshold for talking about education is very low, and anyone can express his or her views on the hot and difficult issues of education; on the other hand, in order to make a more accurate, distinctive and colourful interpretation of educational reform and development, and to dig out the real educational problems and situations from them, and to generate real educational sensitivity, it is necessary to understand the educational thoughts and systems of ancient and modern China. This has been explored by educators over the centuries, both as a reflection on universal humanity and on the particular circumstances of their time and place. Their personalities and encounters with life, and the different dimensions of their reflections and explorations, have converged into an endless tide of ideas, rushing and crashing, making countless waves, and profoundly affecting the destiny of education and pedagogy. The problems of education in China have Chinese characteristics, yet they are inseparable from, and even common to, the universal educational thinking and pursuit of mankind. We are always calling for educators in Chinese soil, and as the trend of international education becomes more and more open, more and more people are embracing the internationalisation of educational behaviour and thinking in various ways and gestures, and Chinese educators must also solve Chinese problems with an international perspective. We need to digest and assimilate the classical educational concepts that have a long history, so that they can take root in Chinese soil. Education is both a science and an art. Unconditional attention and acceptance will awaken the seeds of growth within children, and the smiles on their faces are my greatest happiness as a teacher!
