Book Description

Chinese practice-oriented legal education has been criticised for being inefficiency for cultivating legal professionals. To identify root causes to problems of Chinese practice-oriented legal education, this study applies text, discourse, theory framework to identify relationships among legal education policy text, social practice, and ideological structure. Through examining how key terms are recontextualised across texts, it identifies that centralism and neoliberalism coexist and battle with each other. Their intertwined relationship has resulted in conflicts in three main areas: the decisive actor of resource allocation, appreciation of students’ individuality, and degree of universities’ autonomy, which results in the inefficiency of Chinese practice-oriented legal education.
