About Author


Liu Yun, graduated from the Chinese Department of Fudan University with a PhD in 2013, is currently an associate professor at the Institute of Literary Studies, Shanghai International Studies University. Her main research interests include modern Chinese literary manuscript studies and the history of Chinese translations of the Bible in the late Qing Dynasty. She has published an academic monograph and more than ten papers in CSSCI journals such as Comparative Literature in China, and has presided over several research projects supported by the National Social Science Fund, the Ministry of education of Humanities and Social Science project, etc.

刘云,女,北京人,2013年毕业于复旦大学中文系,获博士学位。现为上海外国语大学文学研究院副研究员。主要研究方向为中国现代文学手稿学、晚清圣经汉译史,目前已在《中国比较文学》等CSSCI期刊上发表论文十余篇,出版专著一部,并主持多项国家社科后期资助、教育部人文社科等科研项目。


Book Description


The study of manuscripts has a long history in China and the West. Traditional research paradigms of textual criticism aimed to edit an ideal ‘pure and reliable’ text, based upon comparisons of different transcripts. However, with the emergence of printing technology, transcript analysis eventually fell out of practice. There has also been a shift in research paradigms and objectives of manuscript genetics and criticism. Textual genetics emerged out of this context; it aims to collect and combine the ‘genetical materials’ in the creation phase of a text, in order to identify the ‘precursor-texts’, so as to restore the creation process of a text. The concept of ‘text’ here is no longer a ‘fixed substance’, but a ‘floating process’. Starting from this perspective, this study provides an analysis of modern Chinese literary and translated manuscripts since the 19th century onwards. Modern Chinese literature is a period of ‘unique literature’ in that it has a close relationship with the historical and social development of modern and contemporary Chinese society: this marks its most salient characteristic. Its ‘uniqueness’ has first to be represented in the interaction between literature, politics and society, and in the ‘social meaning’ and ‘political meaning’ that is endowed upon literature. The uniqueness of modern and contemporary Chinese literature requires more than an analysis of the manuscripts based on relevant Western theories: it requires theoretical breakthroughs in accordance to the actual situation and basic characteristics of the researched subject.

手稿研究,无论在中国还是西方,都有着源远流长的历史。传统的文本校勘学研究模式,主要在于试图通过对不同版本的抄本的比较,编辑出纯净而可靠的理想文本。但是,随着19世纪以来印刷术的兴起和抄本逐渐退出历史舞台,现代手稿发生校勘学的研究范式与研究目的都发生了转换,文本发生学便是在这一背景下兴起的,它希望通过集合文本创作阶段的起源的材料,将其通过逻辑整理与分析确定为前文本的形式,以此还原文本的生产过程。在这里,文本的概念不再是一个固定的实体,而成为了流动的过程。本研究即试图从该角度出发,依据发生校勘学理论,对19世纪以来的中国近现代文学创作与翻译手稿进行分析。中国近现代文学最重要的特点,在于它是一种与中国近现代历史社会发展进程紧密相连的特殊的文学。这种特殊之处,首先表现在文学、政治、社会三者间的缠绕不休,以及文学被赋予的独特社会意义政治意义上。因此,在对中国近现代文学手稿进行剖析时,其特殊性也要求研究者不能仅仅停留在根据西方理论对现代文学手稿进行阐释的层面上,而必须根据研究对象的实际情况和基本特点,做出新的理论突破。对中国现代文学手稿进行研究的意义可以大致归结为两方面的内容,即厘清建构。对于前者而言,由于手稿是作家创作活动最为直接的记录与表现,因此,通过对于手稿的研究和分析,在很大程度上可以确定之前对于文本所提出的解释性的假设正确与否、对此做出评价,并在这一基础上提出新的解释性假设。对于后者而言,则需要将手稿研究和文学社会学研究真正地结合起来,通过作为人类思想活动的物质记载手稿,确实地追踪作者的思想变化——以及试图解释这种变化得以产生的社会原因。在这一独特语境中展开的现代文学手稿学研究,其意义不仅是文学的,同时也是历史的。
