初中数学教育创新必须要有先进的教育理念作为理论基础。20世纪50年代以来，国际上数学教育改革的潮流正盛，许多数学教育名家提出了各自的教育理念，如前苏联的斯托利亚尔、荷兰的弗赖登塔尔、美国的波利亚等数学教育家均提出了各自的数学教育理论。这些理论一直是我国数学教育界指导教学的经典理论，在我国的初中数学教创新中发挥了重要的指导作用。我国的数学教育工作者也在不断探索自己的数学教育理论，提出了很多适合我国初中数学教育情况的数学教学原则。此外，还需要不断创新现有教育模式，并积极引进先进教学方法，同时还需要根据现有教育问题建立完善的初中数学教学体系、初中数学教育管理制度、教育监督机制、教育评价体系等，以提高中学数学教育水平，并促进初中数学教育创新及发展。
